If anyone has not read this gem of a book, just because it's a century old, you're missing out on a really good thing. I actually ordered the softcover from Amazon, because I had to have it a more portable easier to read format. Wasn't satisfied with just having the online text that is available easily through a search on the web by using his name and title. He clarifies really nicely, the concepts of how to never resist the negative, opposing thoughts that come into your mind, and how to just simply focus on what you want. It's amazing, how in 1906, he puts things so well in line with what I had already been reading in more current works. Also the area of deservingness is very well explained, in a humorous but home-hitting way.I think the most important concept he covers is his emphasis on how important it is to keep your energy on just one objective, and to never waver in your attention to it, and he uses the analogy of a lover flirting with others instead of his/her mate. Flirting with other potential goals, i.e. indecision, leaves your main goal to respond in kind by taking a step backwards. ( recommend Message of a Master by John McDonald for an 80-page reminder of the importance of one-pointedness, here's the link: The Message of a Master )Atkinson's quote on worry: "You do not need to fight Worry - that isn't the way to overcome the habit. Just practice concentration, and then learn to concentrate upon something right before you, and you will find the worry thought has vanished. The mind can think of but one thing at a time, and if you concentrate upon a bright thing, the other thing will fade away. There are better ways of overcoming objectionable thoughts than by fighting them. Learn to concentrate upon thoughts of an opposite character, and you will have solved the problem."
This book is so basic and simple, it amazes me that we don't require that our children read this in elementary school. Maybe because if everyone recognized their inherent power, the world may be a truly abundant place with enough for everyone? I have started practicing every technique in my own life. One small example- I really wanted to get involved in a wellness center. I thought about it, not obsessively, but with confidence, courage and honesty about how much will and commitment I needed to give. Withing 2 weeks, a friend told me about a small health center that needed help getting off the ground. Now I am working mentally and willfully to help move the shared vision to the next level. WWA talks about all the doubts, fears and dangerous messages that we have to eliminate. He also speaks of the universe as a living breathing pulsation that hears what we say and responds earnestly to our thoughts, words, actions and ideas... I read excerpts from this book daily!
I was attracted to this read because I was ready. I got tired of the tail wagging this dog. It was time for me to take control of my every thought. Not just control but responsibility too. I have come to realize that I've been generating my everyday reality by how I have been thinking. (Mostly negative and defeating)This is one of the original books on the Law of Attraction. This is really nothing new but it's reassuring that this truth/law lives on.Be amazed as I was!
This has some really insightful and useful tidbits in there. I've read a million similar books, but a few things he said specifically were very original and stuck with me; I found it very beneficial. It's a quick read.
Before The Secret made the Law of Attraction a household name, a group of metaphysicans were writing about how thoughts are things and what you think you are. It was through reading The Secret that I discovered Thought Vibration by Mr. Atkinson. Thought Vibration is not the best written book, but the information it offers is good and timeless. I recommend that serious students of truth or esoteric wisdom read this book to get additonal information on thought vibrations.
This is one of the more interesting examples of an older book that has some perfect pieces of wisdom but the only problem is there really wasn't the volume of "great ideas" that you could get in other books. This is certainly not one of the classic self help books but the ideas about the Law of Attraction are present. The book is short and that doesn't help it's case as a good value in books. There are several books out there that are shorter with much more useful ideas. I'm not saying there aren't great ideas but comparatively speaking it's a fast read and useful just simply not the most useful. In summary, it's small investment but I don't think it's a life changing book.
This book was written in the late 1800's by William Atkinson. It is an early version of "The Secret". What you think becomes your reality. Always good to hear the law of attraction and remember that we need to be cognizant of the thoughts in our head!
I FOUND MYSELF IN NEED OF A HIGHLIGHTER AS THE "THOUGHTS"LEAPED INTO MY PSYCHE. IT WILL BE A TOP SHELF BOOK FOR RE-READING MANY TIMES.
