Very interesting historical information and well written - easy to read. Also very helpful about what fish are around when and how to fish for them.
This lovely book is called "A History of Fishing in the Florida Keys"; but since fishing is so much a part of these storied islands, Mr Epstein's terrific book is a great introduction and guide for anyone who's interested in visiting (and many people visit will also want to stay a lot longer). Epstein's vast knowledge of the history and lore of the Keys is complemented by his personal experiences as a guide, a fisherman, and longtime residence.

Not really a history of Keys Fishing. Just some old articles thrown together.
I don't have 30 years of experience fishing in the keys, just a few months each winter. I read just about everything I can about Keys fishing and picked this up to learn more but this has less about history (of fishing here) than any book I have found so far unless the history of Keys fishing began when Mr. Epstein began fishing here. A few old photos, a lot of references to "I" and 'my friend the charter captain...' and the occasional launch into quoting or paraphrasing some government 'study' about saving the Keys. From the five pages of 'about the author' information, I gather that Mr. Epstein wrote 'fishing columns' for several newspapers, much of this reads like several columns piled together without much editing to create chapters. I expected history of Keys fishing and there was some but it was well buried amongst the history of 'Bob's fishing'.
This book is delightful. I am very impressed with the archival pics of celebrities, past presidents and keys legends and their exploits fishing in the Keys. Well written and concise this book is difficult to put down. I will keep this one on my coffee table for all to enjoy. I have always been a fan of Mr. Epstein's past works but this one takes the cake. Love it!
...couldn't put this book down. I had no idea that this beautiful island chain was so full of history and wonder. Wonderful photos and great stories. After reading this book, my wife and I decided to book our next vacation in the keys. I certainly plan to book a charter! Thank you for this gem of a book!
