This is a great coffee-table kind of book, organized around chapters that can be read independently in much any order. It sits greatly within the tradition of Adrian Forsyth's original Tropical Nature, but it also benefits immeasurably from the abundance of excelent photographs in large format that illustrate the text (Tropical Nature has precious few illustrations). If you will spend much time outdoors in forested parts of Central America, Colombia or Ecuador, or Perú, this book is for you.

Beautiful photography and interesting text. Perfect preparation for my coming trip to Costa Rica. I bought this book used and it arrived in brand new condition. I am very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend this book.

This book is extremely well written and the photographs are outstanding as well. It is the quality of the writing and the quality of the information provided that sets this book apart. It gets into the ecology of the rainforest and the interrelationships of the plants and animals and the impact of human activities in a way I have found in no other book of its kind.Very accessible for anyone as the writer clearly wants to inform rather than impress the reader. I can only hope for more books from these people that cover additional species. It covers areas of Costa Rica and Peru but the information is applicable to other rainforest environments in Central and South America.I purchased and read the book after returning from my first trip to Costa Rica and only wish I had done so before the trip so I might have been a more perceptive traveler. If you have an interest in the wildlife of Costa Rica this is a must have book.

I needed this for one of my college courses, "Belize: Rainforests, Reefs, and Ruins." It's basically a picture book for adults. As a college student, any book with more images and less writing is exciting to have. I'm sure it'd also be nice to buy if you're interested in rain forests in general. Stunning photos, interesting material, and good stories.

I have been to Costa Rica twice in the last couple years to see the rain forest and have found this book to be an invaluable resource. The author has written detailed chapters that really give wonderful details ...easy to read and enough info to learn quite a lot, no matter how much you think you already know. And the pictures on glossy paper are just a treat to see ... When you first see the book, you'll likely just flip through the pages and wonder at the majesty of rain forest life ...This is highly recommended for anybody going to Costa Rica!

This is a great introduction to tropical ecology for those looking for a little more science behind the "gee-wiz" ecological fun facts of the tropical rainforest. Forsyth, as a working researcher, understands the science behind the natural history he discusses, but his gift with words makes it not only accessible but highly enjoyable to read. The great photography really helps illustrate the concepts, as well.Much more of a coffee-table sized book, this is something you'll want to pick up before heading to Costa Rica, and enjoy each morning with your coffee while planning your trip.

I did not expect this book this book to be great and it isn't. It is Wonderful. Beyond my expectations. It is a beautifully made photo book on high gloss paper with detailed writing about the rainforest.

I purchased this book as a gift for a friend who had recently been to Costa Rica on an 'eco-tourism' trip. The feedback ( from my friend) about the book was absolutely glowing! She raved about it! If, like me, you think ceremonies and rituals have been watered down or forgotten altogether in today's society, this is the book for you. I have read a few of Sandra's other titles -- they're all wonderful, but I don't think anything has touched my heart as deeply as this one. Sandra's book is excellent. It appeals not just to shamanism, but to all beliefs. Some ceremonies are complex, some are always available, most are very simple yet powerful. If you with to memorialize a pet, or an annual plant, or temper the anger of a neighbor, there's a ceremony in Sandra's book you can use. This is a book written by a brilliant mind that got stuck in the 1980’s. The author appears to be oblivious to what’s been going on in the realm of earth and nature based spiritualities since then. She presents ceremony that is largely comprised of pieces from Wicca, and other genres of Contemporary Paganism, and Native American Traditions slapped with - the very problematic in 2018 - label of “Shamanism.” And it’s presented as though it’s all new material! Ingerman has some substantial work behind her but, she’s late to the table with this one and her publisher never should have let it go to print. And then ... OMG the cover!!!??? Who the heck let THAT slide by and what were they thinking??!! Never mind. What has been seen cannot be unseen.

When you have more highlighted sections than white, you know the book is full of sacred content. I can't say enough about this book and i'm only through the first 2 chapters.

I have read all her books and find this one takes you deeper giving you examples of how to do ceremony at any age level. It is so good to see this book in print. Her teachings now brought to practical experiences we can do ourselves.

Sandra inspires me as a Transformational Intuitive that guides people to find their True Selves. She reminds me to exonerate the practice of rituals and ceremonies and add them more frequently to my own Life and that of others. We all need to solidify our Lives in order to balance how our planet’s negative energies can devour and destroy our Love of the Good.

I found this book comforting. At times when I wish to mark an event with a ritual, I may be short on ideas that seem suitable. Sandra's book offers authentic yet reassuringly simple and genuine suggestions for honoring life's transition points and the shiftings of the natural world. Consulting the book feels like a way to become your own shaman or ceremonial leader as needed.

Although the printing and artwork (the pictures) are good, the quotations (3) from the Bible are not accurate; after searching three different versions of the Catholic scriptures (DRV, CCD, and NAB) I was unable to duplicate the words found in this booklet. From page 19 there is the following quote, "Weep not for Me, Who am innocent, but weep for yourself and for your children." The actual quote from the DRV is, "Daughters of Jersalem, weep not over me, but weep for yourselves and for your children." (St. Luke 23: 28)

My favorite Way of the Cross, written by a saint, and not just any saint, but St. Francis of Assisi.His burning and heart-felt passion for the Lord comes through wonderfully in this Way. Lessrepetitive than St. Alphonsus' Way. Deeply moving and sure to deepen your appreciation of theLord's passion as well as stir up the flames of fervent devotion. Do it every Friday!

This is my favorite version of the Way of the Cross, written by St. Francis of Assisi. This is the same one that my church used 60 years ago, and I agree that it is less repetitive than the Liguarian version. My very favorite station is 12, "Behold Jesus crucified. Behold His wounds, received for love of you. His whole appearance betokens love. His head is bent to kiss you. His arms are extended to embrace you. His heart is open to receive you. Oh superabundance of Love--Jesus the Son of God died on the cross so that men may be delivered from eternal death." Is there anything more beautiful?

I am a Secular Franciscan,so it's meaningful to pray the stations in the thoughts and prayers of St. Francis. Also the covers are glossy and will hold up so much longer

traditional, no modernist jargon.
