The information and the presentation in these pages is too valuable to receive anything less than 5 stars. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Tectonics.
The author is intelligent, a good writer, really knows his stuff, and has a great sense of humor. But more important, you'll never see the world the same after reading this. You'll have a new appreciation for science and how much research it takes to unravel the Earth's mysteries, and you'll have a better understanding of earthquakes, volcanoes, and deep time. Not light reading, but well worth the effort. This is one of the top 10 books in my geology bookshelf.
Written in a casual and often humorous style, it's easy reading, yet packed with information on current geologic knowledge. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the subject but doesn't want to slog through a college textbook.
What a grand book! Witty and chockablock full of information, and explanations that even a non-geology type can understand. Livemore includes lots of physics, which I find hard to follow...but it's no knock against Livemore.
